Tech problem - Win 10 won't recognize my Kindle Fire

My Dell Windows 10 computer won't recognize my Kindle Fire as a connected device. It worked fine in Windows 7, but since I upgraded to Windows 10, plugging my Kindle Fire into the computer via a USB cable doesn't work. The computer recognizes the Kindle Fire for a moment, but then the "connected" screen goes away.
